Do you hear that? That’s the sound of the revolution. What revolution am I talking about? Does it have something to do with politics? Are the lower classes finally rising up to reclaim what is rightfully theirs? Are humans and robots doing battle to the death in the streets? Is microwave pizza finally going to be good? No, none of the above. The revolution in question has to do with smartwatches. In short, they will soon be just about everywhere you look. Case in point, Samsung is about to unleash the second iteration of their Galaxy Gear smartwatch on the world. Gentlemen, start your engines.
The company has announced two version of the second gen smartwatch, the Galaxy Gear 2 and the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo. What’s the difference between the two? The only real difference between the two is the Gear 2 has a 2.0-megapixel camera with 720p HD video capture, and the Gear 2 Neo does not. So, this is the odd case in which the one with the extra word at the end has less features than the one without that extra word. Both watches also employ some major upgrades over their predecessor, including a much longer battery life, larger processor, more ram and more storage for videos and what not. Also, as rumored, Android is gone and being replaced by the Tizen operating system.
Samsung has yet to release pricing on these bad boys, but one can expect they will be cheaper than the original flavor, which clocked in at a robust $299. The release date has also yet to be announced but it shouldn’t be all too long from now.
