You may remember a while back when we reported that TomTom, the popular GPS company, had been working on some smartwatches of their own. Well those watches were released today, and they have some very interesting tech behind them.

TomTom unveiled released two new watches, the Runner and the Multi-Sport watches. As you can imagine by looking at the name, these devices are primarily aimed at the sports market, but people who aren’t in to sports might be able to find some use for these watches as well.

The idea behind these watches is that they are aimed at helping people be able to train more effectively. Both of these watches feature large display sizes, as well as easy to use on-screen menus. Both the Runner and Multi-Sport also include a large array of training tools, which is perfect for those of us who are looking for a new watch that will help us with our training. Both of the watches also look the same, and they look quite good. The design is fairly slim, at 11.5mm, and it should be able to fit all wrist sizes.

The new TomTom sports watches also have the ability to be able to sync your data online, where you can track your progress and see what kind of steps you need to take to reach your goals. The battery life on the watches is up to 10 hours on GPS mode, and they can be connected to a Bluetooth heart rate monitor to further track your fitness.

You might be wondering what the difference is between the two devices. That’s a good question, and one that doesn’t have a very obvious answer. It seems that the TomTom Runner, as its name suggests is really only for runners, while the Multi-Sports is more accommodating for, you guessed it, people who do multiple sports. This could be triathletes, or just people who dabble in a wide range of sports. The TomTom Multi-Sport includes all the features of the Runner, and adds on to it by adding the ability to track athletes who are involved in other sports.

Both devices include one large button, which makes it a lot easier to record progress as you are running, swimming, cycling, and so on. In fact, they’re both waterproof up to 165 feet, or 5ATM. The Multi-Sport even includes a bicycle mount for cyclists, which could very much come in handy, and is a nice touch when companies often will charge extra for this.

Overall, TomTom has made a great product. The TomTom Runner costs $169.99, and the Multi-Sport costs $199.99.
