Long time followers of this blog know that we have covering Samsung’s pending smartwatch announcement extensively. The “will they or won’t they” factor involved in this Samsung decision had made for plenty of interesting copy and, truth be told, nobody was really sure which way they’d land until recently. Recent weeks have shown definitive proof that the thing was coming. We just didn’t know exactly when they’d formally announce it and, ultimately, what shape the smartwatch would take. Just how smart would it be, in other words. Well. You can rest easy tonight. We now have a heap of new info.
They are calling it the Galaxy Gear and it is definitely coming. How definite is this? Samsung themselves have come forward to announce the intelligent timepiece. Interestingly enough, they aren’t even calling it a watch. They are calling it simple a “wearable.” That suits us just fine. Tech wise, it is to be used to supplement all of your other Samsung devices, be they tablet or phone. It can be used to look at any info you’d look at with those other devices on your wrist. It can also be turned into a phone all by itself, with no need for Bluetooth pairing. Very Dick Tracy. Also again, it can be used to take photos. Very James Bond.
It will ship in six different colors, which should suit you rainbow fanatics out there. It runs on an 800 MHz single core processor with gyroscope, accelerometer and pedometer, has got 512 MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. A single charge provides 25 hours of normal usage from its standard 315 mAh button battery. No price or release date has been announced as of yet but we’ll let you know.
