If you are a wearable technology enthusiast, and why wouldn’t you be, you no doubt are getting more and more excited about the forthcoming consumer-grade Oculus Rift VR headset. This little bad boy is like having your own personal holodeck to stuff your head inside. We have been keeping an eagle eye on its development ever since it was first announced on what seems so many moons again. Every now and then we like to take a look at what is going on in the world of Oculus’s precious little container and give you an update. This is Today in Oculus Rift.

First off, some industrious hacker out there has converted the NES classic The Legend of Zelda into the perfect game for Rift owners. They took the original cart, rendered it in full 3D and then threw it on the Rift. What does it play like? Well, essentially it plays a lot like the original only in 3D and way, way more immersive. Of course, there are some limitations given the software is over 25 years old. For instance, you can’t really look down or aim your sword down since that was not an option in the original game. It could take a little getting used to, is what I’m saying. Still, as novelties go, this is an absolute winner.

Next, there has always been the question of how much the Rift will cost when it finally hits store shelves. Google’s Glass device may be going the expensive, rich person route by launching at around $1,500. The Oculus Rift, by contrast, is going to be as cheap as humanly possible(according to the company.) They want the idea of VR gaming to take off and what better way to do that then to make it almost an impulse buy? The creators say it will launch for around $300, less than both the PS4 or the Xbox One.
