The Omate TrueSmart Smartwatch – Not the MOST Stylish, But Certainly Powerful

With the smartwatch revolution in full swing, we are seeing more smartwatch models released or announced every week, and every time a new one is released it’s slightly different than the one before it. The new Omate TrueSmart smartwatch is no exception to that. While it might not be the most stylish accessory you could be carrying around on your wrist, it certainly is one of the most powerful. A number of Android smartwatches have come out over the past year or so. Many of them run a varied version of Android, and even more of them are running on a varied version of an old Android release, like Android 2.0. The Omate TrueSmart is a little different though. The Omate TrueSmart runs Omate OS 1.0, which is based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. That’s pretty close the latest release of Android. Not only that, but it also runs on a dual-core MediaTek MT6572 Cortex A7 1GHz processor with 512MB of RAM. Ok, so that’s a bit of a mouthful, but for such a small device, it packs a punch.

The watch itself has 4GB of internal storage, which is better than a lot of smartphones, and if that’s not enough for you then it also includes a MicroSD slot for up to 32GB of added storage. Essentially, you’ll be able to install a bunch of apps on the device, especially if you use external storage.

Then there’s all the connectivity functions of the device. Not only can it connect to WiFi and Bluetooth, but it also has a built in FM radio tuner. Sure, most people don’t listen to the radio anymore, but it’s still a very nice feature to be had, and one that sets it apart from a lot of other devices. The watch also features GPS capabilities, which could be very useful in situations like cycling or running.

Another thing that sets it apart is the fact that it has a built in camera. And not just a little front facing camera for video chatting either. This camera is there to take photos, and it’s positioned in a way that makes it easier to take them. The camera is a 5 megapixel one, and it has an AF lens built in. This is the first of its kind. Other smartwatches have had cameras, but not like this.

All the features mentioned above are packed into the tiny casing of the Omate TrueSmart. And guess what? That casing is waterproof AND dust-proof with IP67 certification. Yet another feature that sets it apart from other devices, and one that makes this watch a possible candidate from the sportspeople among us. The Omate TrueSmart would make a GREAT sports watch with the appropriate apps.

While this device is still in its early stages, it’s set to be a very interesting device, and one that is different from the others. The pressure is on for Omate though to come out with the device before someone else comes out with one that’s similar or better, especially with Samsung and Apple set to release their own smartwatches in the near future. The Omate TrueSmart is almost ready to enter the funding phase, and this is one watch you should definitely keep an eye on!
