Google Glass. Heard of it? Of course you have. Google’s fantastical AR/VR eyewear device could very well represent the opening salvo in our eventually descent into some kind of awesome or terrifying cyberpunk future. Go us! Go future! In any event, Glass isn’t out for your garden variety consumers yet, but that hasn’t stopped people from volleying complaints at the company. One of the biggest issues people have with Glass is its ornery form factor and the fact that it doesn’t play nice with those that wear prescription glasses. Well, Google has heard these complaints and decided to do something about it. That’s right. They finally announced prescription frames for Glass users.
The company has announced four different frames in all. Many people expected the company to team up with a known frame manufacturer, such as Warby Parker. However, this is Google we are talking about here. They decided to go it alone and produced the frames in-house. Each frame is produced form titanium steel and look, to these jaded old eyes, pretty darned spiffy. There is even some talk about insurance providers picking up some of the tab for these, since you need glasses to see an all. O course, you don’t need glasses to see awesome 3D images floating in space right in front of your eyes but, hey, you say tomato, I say tomahto.
Of course, the company hasn’t released word as to when these frames or the basic Glass device will launch to the hungry, hungry public. We’ll let you know when they drop more information. In the meantime, here is a video.
