The smartwatch craze is real and its coming for your daughters. For so long the humble, Kickstarter-funded intelligent watch industry has relied on appealing to both sexes equally. That kind of nonsense can and will not stand. Not on my, um, watch. In all seriousness, though, the sexes do have slightly different needs when it comes to their tech. Nothing groundbreaking, of course, but the need is still there.
A company called Bia, headed up by two industrious designers named Cheryl Kellond and Sylvia Marino, is prepping their Bia GPS smartwatch for world release. This new entrant into the burgeoning field is slightly different than its competitors. For one, the band is smaller and better equipped to fit the average female wrist. The band is also made from neoprene, which means a more comfortable fit when you wear it for long periods of time. The Bia is also designed with safety in mind, and is equipped with a panic button. If something awful is about to go down, and you push the button, it’ll send an alert to your loved ones so they can help you out.
Of course, the watch also comes with the usual smartwatch bells and whistles. It’s touchscreen enabled and tracks all of the pertinent vitals. And don’t fret men. The company says they are working on a watch exclusively for guys. It’ll just be a while longer.
Speaking of long waits, the Bia isn’t even out until April 2013. Until then, we’ll all have to live in a world where smartwatches are not gender-exclusive. Check the video below for an ABC news fluff piece on the watch.
