Do you hear that rumbling noise off in the distance? That’s not a dinosaur coming to turn us into lunch. Rather, it’s the coming smartwatch revolution. Wrists may be naked and bare now, but that won’t be the case for long. Just about every tech company under the sun(and even the moon) are producing their own smartwatches in the coming year or two. The market is ripe for a breakout hit and one of these companies is going to be “the one.” Of course, it may just be Apple whenever they decide to formally enter the arena. In the meantime, here is a new watch that purports to be something, well, different.
Introducing Neptune’s Pine smartwatch. What makes it so different? Well, for one it doesn’t have to be tethered to a smartphone, although it can interact with one. Pine is its own unique entity and can do everything on its own, without the need of any Bluetooth streaming. It even has a built-in keyboard for stuff that needs lots of words. It’s sort of like wearing an old school Blackberry on your wrist, except it also does video chatting, phone calls and other neat things. Dick Tracy, eat your heart out.
The Pine is not yet available at your local watch shop or even your local, uh, type of wood shop. If you want to be the first kid on your block that can look at all of the other kids on your block right on your wrist you’ll have to saunter over to their Kickstarter page and kick in around $230. The company says they’ll ship in January.
