Google Glass is often featured in technology news these days. Whether it be a new update, or apps for Glass, there’s no denying that Glass can indeed be a very fun device. But Google Glass isn’t just a device for fun. It can also be used in a number of practical settings. It’s not hard to imagine that Google Glass would be put to good use for a business man in his office for example. Google Glass could also be used for a number of other practical things, such as medicine. In fact, Google Glass is already helping doctors. Here are a number of ways that Google Glass is helping or could help save lives.

Google Glass has a number of great features to it, but one of them is surely the fact that it can, for the most part, be controlled by your voice. This leaves your hands free to be doing other, more important things, like surgery. This could be great for a number of things. Firstly, doctors could use the camera to stream a video of them performing surgery. This could be used for medicine students to be able to see a live surgery in action. Not only that, but surgeons could also live stream their surgery to other surgeons if they are performing a tricky surgery. That way, they could get 2nd and 3rd opinions on what should be done, which could, in turn, help in having more successful surgeries.

The video capturing capabilities of Google Glass aren’t just limited to surgery, however. Glass could be taken to locations of emergency situations in order to let other emergency services know just how bad the situation really is. The stream could also be sent back to a hospital so that the emergency room could get ready to treat patients as soon as they arrive. This could potentially save the life of someone who is in a serious accident.

Google Glass could also allow hospital staff to walk into a patients room and automatically bring up their information. This doesn’t necessarily have to be by using facial recognition, which is banned by Google, at least for now. Instead it could be based on location. Each patient has their own room, or at least their own part of a room, and Glass could display information about a patient based on where the wearer is located in the hospital. This would help ensure quick and easy treatment, and would also be good for the environment, without needing to print out papers for the patients. This system could even be extended to having vital monitors hooked up to a network, and then the information that is being collected by these monitors could be displayed on the Google Glass display. This would ultimately create a very efficient system in a hospital. This system also doesn’t have to be only implemented in a hospital. It could also be used in a doctors office to bring up information about the next patient.

Google Glass also doesn’t have to be strictly used on a professional level. It could be used for personal medical uses, like the ability to better track your diet and your calorie intake based on what you’re eating. It could also track your fitness and movements when you work out, helping you improve your workout routine.

Sure, some of these changes might take a while to take effect, but some of them could be implemented simply by owning Google Glass. With Google Glass expected to be released commercially before the end of the year, it might not be too long before these changes could start to be seen. One thing is for sure, we are sure to see Google Glass being used in some very practical situations within the next year!
