There is not really many other watches that can compete with GTR 4 or amazfit in general. The premium experience at reasonable price is the main selling point of this watch. It works like fitness/ smartwatch and it feels expensive, but it cost fraction of the price. The battery life is awesome. The Zepp is great, but you need to tinker around. There are so many customization options, you need to get techy a bit.Great looking watch and lots of watch faces.Best watch I have owned so far.

TL;DR:The best smart watch I’ve used in ages.My first smartwatch was the Samsung Galaxy Gear (version 1), after which I’ve used the Amazfit Stratos, as well as the Fitbit, and the Garmin Venu 2. The Amazfit GTR 4 is by far the best value for money.Pros:- The racetrack grey strap is super comfortable and does not feel sticky- Not going to reference the features listed on the website -> it has all of it and works perfectly- Alexa integration, as advertised, is very useful for controlling my lights and other commands- The sports tracking does exactly as advertised, high precision.- Very attractive watch faces that add visual beauty as functional tooltips (sun and moon positions, weather, etc)- Standard band sizing; I can hook my Amazefit Stratos’ as well as Garmin’s straps easily- The battery life is ridiculously long [Edit after 3 months of usage: Battery goes from 100% to 5% in 15 days]Cons:- I thought it had payment options but it does not have NFC payments, only something called membership cards ???? which is useful i guess (loyalty cards while shopping)- The Zepp app is amazing at tracking but has only 1-direction data transfer. I cannot bring in weight information from google fit into ZeppI’ve used Amazfit products in the past and they have all been amazing.

I was looking to replace my Garmin VivoActive 3. It was a good watch, but a bit sluggish and the battery life had begun to fade, so time to move on. Looked at the current Garmin options and they either seemed like there wasn’t much change or were super expensive.Friend told me to consider Amazfit. Wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but decided to get this as I wanted to find a watch with smartwatch functions and decent battery life. BETTER THAN EXPECTED!! I got the gray band with black case was surprised how useful the band was. I wanted a black case, so this was my only option. I was able to link the Zepp app with Strava and Google Fit.With everything, there are always pros and cons. So to start with the bad:CONS: Zepp app isn’t’ bad, but it’s a bit confusing. See below for some tips.Setup: Be prepared to spend a bit of time setting up the watch to your liking.Custom charging station. But you charge so infrequently, its not a big deal but it’s the same with Garmin, Fitbit, and Apple.PROS: The battery life is insane. It’s a bigger watch so I’m sure the battery is bigger, but I’ve worn it for 4 days now and am at 72%. And that’s even after I’ve gone on two 6mi runs with GPS which is a battery hog.GPS: Picks up within seconds and kept the signal without interruption.Display: Big and good resolution. If running in sunlight, may need to turn up brightness though. The touch screen is very responsive and no lag. Puts my Vivoactive 3 to shame.Wrist tilt: My Garmin Vivoactive was hit or miss if the screen would turn on with my wrist tilt. The GTS nails it.Zepp AppThis app is necessary to communicate with your phone and maximize its smart watch functionality. It is also a pretty robust fitness app. The app is pretty thorough, but the layout isn’t the most intuitive so expect to spend a little bit of time, especially in the beginning going through all the menus. It’s similar to the Garmin app, but again, a bit less intuitive. If you want to link Strava, Google fit, etc, tap on “PROFILE” right lower corner, then ADD ACCOUNTS.A few tips:In the upper left is the watch icon. Tap on this to access the watch specific menu. Tap on NOTIFICATIONS AND REMINDERS to customize what you want to be alerted about. I turned off the standing and goal notifications and activated the app alerts for my important apps as well as incoming SMSWATCH FACES is self explanatory. You can buy new ones, but I found the preinstalled ones to be just fine. The APP STORE is meh. No apps such as Spotify, banking, etc. But I don’t use my watch to buy things anyway.WATCH SETTINGS: I customized my LONG PRESS UPPER BUTTON to do the remote camera shutter, but you can pick what you want from a long list. I made my PRESS LOWER BUTTON access workout. I turned off MORNING UPDATES as I didn’t find this useful. You can also change order or add/remove options on your watch using the EDIT QUICK ACCESS APPS and the EDIT CONTROL CENTER options. I got rid of a lot of stuff and moved up things like music control, and compass. You can also adjust your voice control options to suit your liking. I don’t personally use this so I turned it off. APP LIST MANAGEMENT – adjust as you like. Can change order or remove items by sliding them.SHORTCUT CARDS – similar.APP SETTINGS – self explanatory. Under the PHONE option, you can MANAGE SMS REPLIES and can customize them. Useful if driving for example and you need to send off a quick prewritten reply. MUSIC you can actually store some music on the watch. I access it on my phone, but if you are someone who wants to have music and leave your phone behind, this can be useful to bring some tunes with you.ALEXA. It has Alexa. Pretty nice. Then the usual ‘FIND WATCH” options. I turned off discoverable and heart rate sharing. Not sure why you’d want someone else to access this, but perhaps if you have a personal trainer?Under LAB, you can set up your remote camera shutter options. Unfortunately, you can’t see what your viewfinder is seeing through your watch. You can only fire the shutter.

It’s 11th day today since I got it. The battery was at 67% and it’s down to 23% now. I bought multiple smart watches and this one is by far the best in elegance and functionality.

I’ve had my Amazfit GTR 4 almost a month now and I’m completely sold on this watch. I was an Apple iWatch user for the last 4 years (iWatch 3 and iWatch 5) but I was so tired of having to charge it every single day.I am getting a full week on a charge with the GTR 4. And that is with some heavy daily use. Each day I do on average 3 half mile walks with the dog and a 30-45 minute run. All of those using the exercise tracking feature which tracks with the satellite GPS. And usually on the runs I am playing Bluetooth music that I have loaded on the watch leaving the iPhone at home. The GTR 4 does not have all the features of an iWatch but really the only one I miss is the ability to reply to texts from the watch. I would love to have the quick reply feature to be able to reply with a short “yes” or “okay” or “get back to you soon” type of response directly from the watch. But I’m happy to give that up for the awesome battery life. The sleep tracking is also not as good as the iWatch, but that is not something I spend a lot of time on.I’ve been happy with receiving and making phone calls from the watch. The speaker is clear and others say I sound fine on their end.I haven’t tried it yet but they are also building in a ChatGPT feature that is currently in beta testing, so there could be a lot more coming soon.I have recommended this watch to friends and family.

Battery life, an easy week of use. Could have waited for charging again. I did 10 days, still with 15 % to go. Ease for changing the appearance, and not expensive.

  7. Damian

Wow. What a fantastic watch. I’ve had Samsung, Garmin and Fitbit smartwatches over the years, and this beats them all hands down. About 99% accurate from what I can see. I’ve only had the watch for 7 days, so this is just a first short span review. The battery life is amazing and after 7 days of continual use the battery is shows 72% life left yet and this is with most apps and features running. So far so good

  8. Damian

First of all the watch looks amazing. It looks like a 600$ + watch for a half of the price. 2nd is that the battery is at 55% after almost 3 weeks so battery life is incredible. The screen quality is superb. The selection of designs is great however the nicer ones cost money. The precision of the sleep monitor, bio monitor is very good. The notifications are on point. The only thing I haven’t tested is the sport monitoring, water resistance, gps & Alexa. The only drawback I see right now is the limited app store but it doesn’t bother me really.

I’ve had this for several weeks now and this is my first smart watch experience. This one works and looks great and has great battery life if you set it up right. The heart rate is accurate, the steps are fairly accurate. The sleep info is nice.( I wish it had an ekg and blood pressure function. That would be info I’d like to have) The notifications work well. I don’t like that can’t really answer messages from fb or texts. They have a few pre made canned answers you can send back but you have to use your phone to answer properly. The other functions like music etc. Work fine also. All in all its a very nice watch. The faces variety seem limited. I don’t use all of the excerise functions so I can’t speak on those. I’ve resisted getting one for a long time because I really didn’t see the point of having one if you have your phone nearby anyway. I stand by that even more now after getting one. Although it’s handy to let you know about messages and you can answer a call if you’re in another room than your phone, if you keep your phone on your person all the time like I do, it’s really unnecessary. I have my phone in my pocket all the time pretty much. I don’t do athlete training or heavy exercise which these things seem to be heavily aimed at. It does have it’s good qualities and everything it does, it does well but the question is why do you need it? My phone does all of this stuff and does it better. So I guess if you leave your phone in another room a lot, this could be useful or if you train or excerise a lot. Or if you’re not in a hurry to answer a message with other than a canned message like yes, no, OK etc. And like I said, you can answer a call with it as long as you are close enough to your phone. I think the range is around 30-40 ft. So, all in all, it does work well within it’s limits. But smart watches in general seem more like a fashion accessory than a super useful tool in my opinion. At least for someone like myself who keeps their phone on them all the time like i do. But if you are an athlete or a person who exercises or trains a lot, I can see that this could be very useful to you. Or if you leave your phone in another room a lot, this might be useful for you also. As a watch it works fine too but you can get a much less expensive watch or use the time function on the phone. So for me, it was a totally unnecessary purchase other than just curiosity about what they actually do and how useful it really was (which in my case really was not very much) but I can see how it could be for certain people.

  • // Q & A

Are the sensors for blood oxygen etc. upgraded in this watch from the previous version?

Yes, The Amazfit GTR 4 debuts the new BioTrackerTM 4.0 PPG biometric sensor. Enhanced to 2LED, the sensor collects 33% more data and is more accurate than the previous generation, thanks to the ultra-thin 0.4mm glass base.

Can you reply to messages and phone calls?

This answer applies to the new Gtr 4 MINI. I don't know how they can have reviews and answers from months ago for a watch version that just came out March, 2023. This GTR 4 Mini is brand new so MY answer applies to this new version. You can also go into the Zepp app and add or delete messages. I've already done that since most of the prewritten messages didn't apply to my situations.

The gtr 3 has a compass, is there one in the gtr 4?

Yes the GTR 4 also has a compass

When you delete an face watch how do you reset the storage space to see the actual storage capacity?

There is a App you can download in the smartphone app that measures storage space

Watching some review videos, it seems the health readings are inaccurate. Has there been any software update to better calibrate the sensors?

Hi there , There have been updates for the GTR 4 , but you can also calibrate for the watch in the Zepp app which increases the accuracy. Kieron | Amazfit Support
