Apple’s iTV feels more and more like vapoware. Its been talked about, but there’s hardly anything beyond mock-up designs in the news. The company’s focus seems to be on getting more iPads in the living room than a dedicated television. Still, it wouldn’t be a day in tech news without an Apple rumor, and this one concerns a potential “iRing” controller.
Analyst Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets dropped a note to tech site, Apple Insider, on Wednesday saying the “iRing” will be a motion device used to control the iTV. “…we believe Apple will release a miniature device called “iRing” that will be placed on a user’s finger and act as a navigation pointer for “iTV”, enhancing the motion detection experience and negating some of the functionality found in a remote,” White said. His intel comes after a visit to Apple’s suppliers during a tour of China and Taiwan.

For a while, there was buzz about the iTV being voice operated. Granted, Microsoft has blended motion and voice control settings into it’s Kinect device, so don’t count out other means of channel surfing, yet.

White continued on saying that a 60-inch dedicated iTV display and 9.7-inch “mini iTV” would be bundled together. The mini iTV would sync with the larger display (so long as you stay within 200 meters), so you could take your shows to the kitchen, bathroom, or other part of the house. There’s also the possibility that the mini iTV’s use could be expanded to display incoming calls, home security footage, and more.

His last prediction, concerning the iWatch, comes as no surprise. White says the iRing and iWatch would tie into the iTV, working together as a household ecosystem to allow users to be hands-free within their homes.
