Fitness tracking devices are certainly not uncommon these days, and it’s getting harder and harder for companies to be able to release products that are truly unique. In fact many of the products on the market simply are not unique. Well there’s a new product that breaks free of that, and has managed to come up with a device that does have it’s own features. It’s called the Fitbug Orb, and it’s by a company called Fitbug.
One of the biggest and best features of the Fitbug Orb is that it can last up to 6 months on a charge. This matches products like the Fitbit Zip, which also can last about 6 months on a charge, but does not strap to your wrist like the Fitbug Orb does. You can, in a way, control how long your battery will last, as the the device has a number of syncing options – you can sync whenever you want, and can set it to sync every half hour, for example. Once that battery does run out, it doesn’t recharge, you simply pop in a new watch style battery and you’re set to go!
In fact, not only can the Fitbug Orb strap to your wrist, but you could probably strap it anywhere you want. Furthermore, it comes in white, pink or black, so there should be one to match your style. The device also allows for you to set goals for your fitness, and will notify you when you reach, or don’t reach those goals.
The Fitbug Orb also is able to connect to a personal training app called KiK, which is able to monitor your activity and give you push notifications based on you not reaching goals that you should be. If however, you’d rather use MyFitnessPal, you can also connect to that without any problems. Not only does it track your training sessions, but the device is a 24/7 tracker, so it will track your sleep, how many steps you take, and an estimate of how many calories you’ve burned.
One thing that Fitbug seems to be pushing is that the device does not have a display. The display for the device is your smartphone, with which data is synced via Bluetooth. The Fitbug isn’t the only fitness device without a display however – other display-less devices include the Jawbone UP and the Amiigo fitness bracelet, which are both very successful devices.
What remains to be seen is exactly how successful the Fitbug Orb will be. Is this the device to lead the way in fitness tracking? Who knows! It could very well be!
Not only is this a great little device, but the price of it is certainly great as well. The Fitbug Orb will set you back only $50, which is cheaper than most fitness tracking devices on the market, including the Fitbit Zip which costs around $60. This is definitely a device to keep an eye on!
