It’s a fact – Headphones are bad for your hearing. While different headphones give different results, they’re still not doing any favors for your ears. Because of that, a number of bone conduction headsets have been popping up over the past couple years. The latest one is called the Sound Band and it’s made by a company called Hybra Advance Technology Inc.

The way that bone conduction works is that it essentially bypasses your outer ears, and sends the sound through your bones straight to your inner ears using a series of small vibrations. In fact, bone conduction is the reason that your voice sounds different to you than it does when it’s recorded and played back. The skull conducts lower frequencies better than air, so when you speak your voice sounds deeper and fuller than it sounds to other people, or to you when it’s recorded and played back. Because of the fact that this technology bypasses your outer ears, it is much less likely to do damage to your ear drum, and hence be a safer way to listen to music.

One of the great things about bone conduction is that it also allows you to keep in touch with the world around you, which can mean being safer in traffic, for example. It also means you won’t have to take an earbud out of your ear every time you want to have a conversation with someone. The Sound Band is also wireless, which adds a layer of convenience to the product.

Hybra Advance Technology has already reached their goal for the Sound Band on Kickstarter, but if you want to own your own set then that would be the way to go about it. Other than that, the headset is set to be released before the year is over, and you will surely be able to purchase a pair when that day comes.
