The Oculus Rift is perhaps the most famous virtual reality headset on the market today and we’ve covered it ever since it was just a prototype. It seems that Oculus VR is getting closer and closer to releasing a product to the consumer market, with the latest word on the company being that it recently acquired $75 million in funding.
This round of funding was led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, the same company that has led funding for the likes of Facebook and Twitter. Oculus currently has the ultimate goal of “making virtual reality something consumers everywhere can enjoy”, says Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe.
The Oculus Rift, the company’s most well known product, is essentially a headset that displays an image or video feed in stereoscopic 3d. This can be used for immersive gaming or video watching experiences, and will allow viewers to see the feed from all angles.
Oculus VR will also be getting a new member on their board of directors in Marc Andreessen, who co-founded Andreessen Horowitz.
