We’ve covered a lot of Oculus VR news over the past couple of months, but with good reason. The company seems to be growing and growing, and their technology is a huge step foreword in virtual reality, with the very successful Oculus Rift. Recently it was announced that John Carmack was to join Oculus VR as their Chief Technology Officer.

John Carmack is known in the technology industry for co-founding id Software, and is most famous for creating games such as Doom and the sequels to Doom. Carmack is expected to bring a lot to the table at Oculus VR, being one of the brightest minds in software development.

Carmack has said that he is very excited to work with Oculus VR, as virtual reality is still a concept that is in its infancy. There is still a lot that could happen with virtual reality, and John Carmack is sure to be an integral part of the development of virtual reality.

Fans of Carmack’s work at id Software will also be pleased to hear that he will be maintaining his current position there.

Oculus VR is known for their extremely successful Kickstarter campaign that raised $2.4 million. After that campaign, Oculus received a further $16 million towards the development of the technology.

This is not the first time that id Software and Oculus VR have crossed paths – In May 2012 it was announced that id Software would be creating a version of their hit game Doom for the virtual reality headset.

Since then it was also announced that Oculus VR would be working towards creating a consumer friendly version of the headset, currently being called the “Oculus Rift 2.0”. Only time will tell what the impact that John Carmack has on the Oculus Rift and virtual reality as a whole will be.
