Video games and technology have always gone together, hand in hand. After all, the very concept of a video game is one rooted in technological innovation. From the very first time Pong graced a monitor, there has been a veritable arms race to create the best controlling, best looking and most intelligent video games imaginable. Nowadays, we have come quite a long way from those days of Pong and Atari. However, we are always looking for new ways to control our games. Surely, wearable technology would offer some new control schemes? Why, yes. Yes they would. Thanks for asking!
Here is a concept smartwatch that takes the idea of gaming to its next logical conclusion. The watch itself can be used as a joystick, allowing you to play whatever game your pretty little heart desires. The whole screen essentially becomes one big input mechanism. It allows you to pan, twist, zoom, tilt and click the screen by physically moving the watchface. Everything but the band itself can become part of the control mechanism. It’s quite innovative, even though the screen itself is only the size of a watch, and therefore tiny as tiny can be. As you can see in the video below, it can be used to play DOOM quite effectively.
However, being as how this is only a prototype watch, it won’t be showing up on store shelves any time soon. But given what a huge industry gaming has become, we’d wager a bet that something similar would show up on said shelves before too long. We’ll let you know when that happens.
