As Steve Jobs once famously declared “the most precious resource we all have is time.” In short, he’s right. In length, oh my gosh time is running out I think my soul is filled with a deep void what am I gonna do please singularity come soon so I don’t have to face this crushing nothingness. Phew. Life is short. All the wearable technology in the world doesn’t change that fact(maybe Google Glass some day.) We live in a culture that avoids talking about death and dying for a myriad of reasons, although many people involved in the psychiatry industry say we should embrace it. But how do we do that? Well, we can star with this watch.
Introducing Tikker, the watch that slowly counts down to your eventual demise. Sound morbid? It is. It’s also kind of neat. When you get your hands on the watch, you answer some basic questions about your health habitsl age and other odds and ends. Then the countdown begins. The whole point is to make you aware of the finite nature of life so you, uh, live it better. Also, in case you were wondering, Tikker functions as a regular old watch.
Something this innately macabre isn’t going to show up on store shelves any time soon. The makers of the watch have taken to Kickstarter to raise the dead funds to finish the manufacturing process. You can become an early bird as you find out about being a late bird for plopping down $39. That’s not bad for a device that, uh, constantly reminds you that you are going to die. Eh, screw it.
