I have had my Suunto core for apx three years and worn it exclusively (also while I was in Iraq) so I feel like this review is more worth reading then someone who’s had it a week. I’ll start with the positive aspects. The watch head is very durable and all the features work as advertised. Now for the negative; the material the band is made of is very fragile it seems to dry rot and crack. I’ve had to replace the band every year so far which doesn’t seem very bad but they cost 50$ a pop. The battery life is aweful and I don’t even use the altitude, barometer, depth, and compass regularly. I change the battery at least 3 times a year. The customer service is awful the first time the band broke Suunto wouldn’t replace it even though it was under warranty. I would not recommend it.

This Suunto Core all black is turning out to be a lemon. I already own 2 other Suunto watches and the Suunto Vector and X-Lander are fantastic watches. Never a problem or complaint with them..This new Core all black is hard to see the display without using the backlight most of the time but I knew that going in from previous reviewers. The biggest problem is the functions buttons stick after not using them for a day or even 5-6 hours. Once they are pressed the first time they feel smooth and work great until it sets again. I’m afraid one day soon they will stick bad and quit working altogether. Other than that I like some of the features Core has but the Vector and X-Lander don’t have and it is a cool looking watch. I bought it online on eBay and I’m hoping I don’t have a problem when I do need warranty work done. If I’m proved wrong I will be the first to reevaluate and update my review.

Love the styling, size, fit, and features. This watch is super lightweight and really does fit like a glove. It’s perfect as a tool watch such as when I need the barometer or any of the other features, but it isn’t perfect in low light. In darkness you can use the built in light but in weak light it’s just grey on grey. From my experience this is just a nuisance moments out of a day. Loren

I love the Suunto Core watch, the digital display is easy to read in most light conditions. The menus are intuitive and easy to navigate. The watch case takes hard use without damage, and even though it is not stylish (its an outdoor adventure watch) i still wear it to the office every day with my suit and tie. Its too practical to leave a home when I am looking a real estate and need facts about orientation and elevation. Very handy. Also, I have VERY good experience with my past Suunto products, and expect nothing less then long life a good performance from this one.

I have had my Suunto Core for over 6 YEARS now. Over 6 years of daily use, seriously, this thing has not leave my wrist. I am an enlisted military service member with 11+ years in the infantry, I am also a firefighter/paramedic for one of the busiest departments in the country. Needless to say I have put this watch through its paces and have abused the life out of it. It has been through hell and back to include military deployments to Iraq and Africa (year long deployments). It has been inside burning houses, heavy interior fire fighting inside structures, car fires, in the ocean on shallow dives, in rivers, on hikes and countless of other events…. This watch has seen it all for the last 6 years and still running strong.I have read negatives about straps and other things but I have to say mine has been nothing but great to me. Yes, I have ripped of the small strap band. I contacted Suunto about maybe sending me a new one, figured its such a small piece they can provide for free. Well, they wanted me to buy all new straps that run about $60. I did not want to buy a new pair of straps just for that so I made my own out of 550 cord. That 550 has been on it for about 4 years with no issues. The top current review on this watch claims the band is fragile , dry rots and cracks. Guess what, I have yet to change out my bands…6 years later!!! They are flimsy and extremely broken in now, might be time for a swap but won’t do it until these fail me. The battery life is good on it as long as you don’t leave unnecessary features on all the time. For instance, I do not need to know if the watch senses a storm coming in or a change in pressure. I turn on when I am in the field if needed but until than that is off, no need for the chirping. Do things like this extends my battery life. I swap batteries about 1-2 times a year, thats it.Overall, I love this watch and will continue to wear it everyday. I have had friends buy them and feel the same way. I get slightly jealous when I see a new one, they look nice when new and pitch black features, but wouldn’t trade my broken in, scarred up, battle worn one for anything. Just take a look at some of my pictures. You can clearly see I have shown no mercy to this thing.I am currently overseas again….and STILL wearing this.

Firstly I should point out I have very slim wrists and this is a big watch. However, after a day or two wearing it I found myself beginning to like the fact it’s “oversized”. After a week I loved it.I did buy this watch primarily on ascetics. The negative display is great and lights well when required without illuminating everything else round about it. I’m a serving police officer and this watch has taken some heavy knocks, it has been scraped against walls and the likes all without issue.I’d recommend it to people looking for a robust watch.

I’ve been looking at this watch for about a year. The price kept me from buying. Do I really need an ABC watch? No, not every day, but you never know when it will come in handy. When it hit $139 I couldn’t resist and thought I could return if it wasn’t what I wanted. That was a big amount for me for a watch. I’m use to buying $12 “sport” watches from amazon and expect them to last 6 months or less and I was usually accurate. I’m hard on all EDC items, knives, watches, sunglasses, flashlights, etc..When it arrived I wasn’t thrilled because of the display. I was expecting something brighter. I went through the setup, which, if you actually read the instructions, is clear, logical and relatively easy. My impressions after one week:- Great look, fit and feel- It’s solid without being clunky, heavy or cumbersome- You get use to the display and the contrast setting will get you where you want to be- I don’t want or need a GPS on my wrist- I’ve set the compass and used it. It’s very accurate!- I’ve made my profile to default on the barometric pressure (not altimeter) and I’m learning it. The storm warning actually works!I can’t imagine returning this watch. It is now part of my EDC. I’ve got a long way to go to learn all the capabilities and how to access them quickly. There are plenty of online videos and downloads. Bottom line, if you want an ABC watch or are just curious to see what uses you can find for this watch, you’d be crazy to pass at this price. The closest price I’ve seen online is around $180 (sketchy dealer) with most places are in the high $200s.

I can’t be more satisfied with this great watch. I heard about Suunto watch since many time. As Im anthropologist, documentarist, professional photographer and videomaker I spent all the time travelling to desert, to high mountains, diving to work with archaeologists, and other extreme environment places. Few time ago I spent two weeks in Annapurna and Himalayas doing some research and is very important there we know all the time the altitude, to avoid altitude sickness. Also important you know the deep when diving, specially due the video equipment I use when diving. I decide to buy this watch as is the most simple Suunto model where battery last for many time, the last models with GPS are not so good for me as I spent many time in places where is not easy to charge watch due lack of electrical power available. Few time after buying it, I order a leather strap to use in more formal places, like office, meetings and other official events. When I travel to extreme places I change to the original black rubber strap in few minutes. After use a lot of Casio and other sport watches, Im very satisfied with this great watch, the Suunto Core.

BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!Watch broke in less then a year due to a leak in the watch. sent to company to fix under warranty and they told me that it would cost 130 for a replacement. THEY DON’T BACK UP THERE PIECE OF JUNK. you would get more out of your money by lighting it on fire because at least the fire would keep you warm for a second.

Great new wrist watch. It is full black, good design, light weight, slightly smaller (and flatter) than the Casio ProTrek(s), it has a solid bezel that rotates with resistance clicks, easy menu, extremely easy configuration, altimeter, barometer, compass, sunrise/sunset time. Everything I need for my outdoor activities. The back-light is adequate in darkness and as far as I am concerned, I have no trouble telling the time or going through the menu settings in broad daylight and sunshine.I have registered this product on the Suunto website for the warranty service. Quick, easy and free. And now begins the ultimate test. The test of time and usage. “thumbs up”

DO NOT BUY!!! I really, really wanted to like this watch. The software is great and I like the looks… But the decorative bezel spinning dial fell off within 6 months (Bezels are for Analog diving watches, Look ma, no hands). I haven’t even replaced the battery yet. This watch is being marketed as a military style ABC watch, but it couldn’t handle my office work environment. Maybe the robust part of this watch is in the warranty, we will see after I go watch-less until I find out if they repair or replace my watch or tell me to go buy a Casio G-Shock or ProTrek. I honestly loved the watch until this happened. Its kind of a deal breaker for me, I wanted a watch that would be around when SHTF not when PHTF – Parts Hit The Floor! LOL**Warranty Update** Suunto has absolutely no Service Centers in Canada listed on their website yet. Their website doesn’t even list Canada in their Country List? You must phone the Canadian support number to get a response. Suunto did send me a UPS shipping number so I could send my watch back for repairs. It came back repaired within 10 days. I was pleased by that and thankful it was still under warranty.Ok Its November 22, 2018. Guess what?My already Suunto repaired watch bezel just fell off again and its been almost 6 months again. This bezel is a terrible idea and I now have a broken watch and the 1 year warranty is up now. Thanks Suunto.Do not buy this watch, buy a Casio.
Just my Opinion –
I opened the box. the watch was ON and in German, luckily i can understand the language (Long Story) but after changing the settings back I quickly realised that the display is to light to see in normal daylight and the backlight may well be great if you are in a dark location wanting to protect your night vision, but useless if you are in an aircraft in complete daylight waiting for the skydive to begin. Boxed up and sent back within an hour, going to stick with GARMIN.

Absolutely loved this watch for the majority of time I owned it. Great options for altitude, temp, compass, ect… Decent band and great look overall. Watch was worn daily for about a year 24-7 and the buttons on the right side of the watch starting failing to spring back to adjustable positions. This isn’t a Navy Seal situation, but rather a desk job situation and standard mow the lawn deal. The buttons eventually stuck in completely and required manual pulling out of the buttons.Researched this and I am not alone on this glitch. Have several other brands of watches and none have this problem. Can’t recommend.

First Core All Black arrived with non-working backlight and very dim display – I could hardly see it. Changed battery, no difference. Arranged to send it back and replacement watch arrived the next day. The display on this one was better, although hardly brilliant, and decided to keep it. Overnight, the buttons simply stopped working. Display stuck on altimeter graphic. Hadn’t even left the house! Sent back for a refund. This watch is really nice looking and has just the right features I wanted, particularly a large and uncluttered digital display and a simple, relatively narrow bezel. The price was good too. Size and weight were good for me. However, from a functional/reliability point of view, the Core All Black absolutely sucks.

Came pre-set up in German, no instructions how to change the language, phoned Suuto, was on the phone for about 15 minutes, took 2 people to help. Quite frankly I get the impression this unit probably wasn’t new, as the box wasn’t sealed. On came provided with a Quick Start Up Guide only, which although in English quite frankly could have been in any language for all the use it is. Returning for a refund, this is a very very expensive thing that isn’t, in my opinion, easy to use – so quite frankly what’s the point of it?
