Depending on who you ask, summer is either fast approaching or already here. Time to bust out the swimsuits, bottles of lotion, hot dogs and other summery odds and ends. Also on the agenda? Sunglasses! When it’s the middle of the day and you are getting a major solar beat down, you need some ocular protection. You also need it at night when you just wanna look cool. Hey, attracting the opposite sex can be tricky. But why stick with old fuddy duddy sunglasses when you can get a pair that not only look cool but also don’t hurt the environment to boot?
Famed designer Marius Temming has prepped what he calls Chic Eco Sunglasses. These bad ass specs are made from hemp, flax and kenaf so their carbon footprint is smaller than those construction guys from Fraggle Rock. These shades are sturdy as all get out and feature high-quality Carl Zeiss lenses. They are made of a non-toxic eco-resin developed by German company Bioresin. Temming unveiled them recently as part of Berlin’s DMY design festival. They went over like gangbusters. Just look at those things! You can almost smell the amazing poolside days(and nights) you’ll have with these at your side.
Of course, the most eco-friendly aspect of these sunglasses are that they are not in mass production as of yet. Nothing says small footprint like not actually existing. Temming says he will rectify that shortly and is expected to announce a price as soon as you can get your hands on a pair. Until then, you’ll have to make due with five dollar shades from the local drugstore. They may not be eco-friendly but they sure are pocketbook friendly.
