First of all, Polar nailed the form factor on the Ignite (Small/Thin/Sleek/Vivid Display). I have tried other supposedly 24/7 based trackers but this takes the cake. It is super light and is the first ‘watch form’ tracker I can wear while sleeping with no complaints. Finally accurate wrist based Heart Rate and GPS for my varying activities throughout the week (mainly run/soccer/cycle). GPS connects very quickly and has measured up to the “actual” distances so far.The sleep metrics are very easy to understand (although the logic behind it seems very scientific and is beyond me). It is interesting to see these metrics on such a granular level, and perhaps I can actually start tweaking my sleep schedule accordingly. The new features that recommend the workout of the day are pretty cool too and seem to be a new feature for a Polar watch. I haven’t had a chance to follow these yet, but am really interested in seeing some recovery recommendations since that has been a pain point for me as of late.
A triathlete’s view –
I bought this because I wanted a clean and lightweight design watch in a casual environment and would also keep me honest about my training activity/ recovery. So far it has met my expectations. To date, I have used this watch for swimming (25M pool), road cycling, trail and road running and especially for the “sleep tracker” feature. I have found the watch was easy to use for all these activities and after one week, the experience in my training has improved as I make small changes recommended by the device.Pro: Function wise, I like having only one button to push and the touch screen is intuitive. The watch GPS hooked up quickly for workouts and the heart rate information was easy to see. Program wise, I like the suggested work out routines and have started to follow those. I also like the polar flow app and how the device easily syncs and uploads my data from the day’s activities. When I use the app, I feel a sense of accomplishment as I review my activities and see the “evaluation” that comes with it. This motivates me to want to work out again the next day!Con: this is a minor complaint, but to enable “auto stop” and set lap length in miles, I had to sync my watch with the Polar Flow App instead of making the adjustment on the watch. That said, this only had to be done one time and the watch works perfectly for me now.Bottom line is that this Triathlete really likes this device. I have read that the watch straps are easily changed so my next step is to buy two new watch strap colors (black and yellow) just to keep my look fresh for the rest of summer through fall.

As fitness tech consumers in 2019, I feel like we are owed accurate GPS, accurate-ish wrist heart rate, easy to use/set up, and something passable as trendy. The Polar Ignite delivers on those points (very well I might add) but isn’t the reason I compelled to write a review. For the last few years all other trackers have been quite frankly garbage when it comes to meaningful recovery and sleep tracking. Im not sure what sort of magic Polar used here but every other fitness wearable maker should be ashamed that Polar is so far ahead with the sleep and recovery tracking. Again, we all have style and personal preferences when it comes to looks and table stakes such as an app or GPS features, but if you want real sleep and recovery data…nothing on the market today is even close to the Ignite

This watch has a big issue with GPS precision… I have compared it vs my phone GPS and the polar has a lot of issues when tracking the path. I was not expecting the accuracy of a Garmin GPS but at least something close to a mobile phone. The good point is that HR monitor works very well and the sleep functions are great. However, by the price, the features are still very limited and, because there is one button only, the usability is compromised…

This is an unfinished product by Polar. When it works, it’s fantastic, but I’ve owned it for about a month and have had to completely unpair and then repair it to my phone 3 times. Sometimes it will automatically connect and upload data, but sometimes you can try manually connecting a dozen times, and it still won’t sync up.I’ve worn it everyday for 30 plus days, and it will tell me that it couldn’t get sleep data. I love the idea of the watch; it just doesn’t come through in reality. The watch face isn’t as touch responsive as I’d like, and the screen turns on 90% when I don’t want it to and about 25% of the time when I do want it to.I went with polar because I love the quality and accuracy of their chest strap HRMs, and in comparison, this watch is actually very accurate. The in watch GPS worked great on a backpacking trip. I love the on board training options and suggestions, but the syncing issues are extremely frustrating. I’ve been trying for 30 minutes this morning and still hasn’t happened. I’ve never returned a product after so much time, but I just want this damn thing to work.
