Okay so I’m fussy maybe? Checked out the Marshall speaker, good reviews but personally NO, Sound quality was poor in store (John Lewis) so went Bose Soundlink and didn’t check it, as last one I had was good, but nope rubbish, very little depth and bass, but ideal for beach I guess as in a silicone body and small.Saw this JBL model on a cruise ship, so had a read, sounds good, so fathers day, I got as gift..JBL are back……. I’m 49, ex bass cadet in my 89 Mustang GT pumping some GTO JBL and amps, but think they went budget and not good for many years, so did not even look at JBL to start with, but they hooked up with I think Harman Kardon?? Which are very good but expensive.Anyway whatever, its bigger than most but sits in back pack fine, it sounds great good bass, wide band of frequencies etc, it can also be used to charge mobile, etc. Yep it’s a power bank tooIt’s rubber coated and built durable.Only sight hang up? The grill texture would get sand trapped, also the 2 woofers, one at each end are exposed, kids will try and poke, causing damage I’d think.Edit: Just to add the battery life is crazy, used it over three days, maybe 4hr at a time, went to charge but was not even half empty.Go buy it, you WILL love it..

I Love this, if your not into bass might not be for you, the battery lasts as long as they advertise. but also comes with the clearest quality in the bt speaker community and no distortion. I like that it has its own version of a usb C cable with the orange color on it so you don’t wind up using a bunch of others on it randomly. This semi small, but heavy speaker, can really make some music sound awesome. And movies I pair itTo tv all the time

A coworker of mine from a previous job had one of these and would always bring it to work. It was a wine venue with a large kitchen and this thing filled the room quite nicely. There was Bose speakers installed in the kitchen, and not to say the Bose couldn’t output more if turned up, but we actually preferred the JBL over the installed Bose especially in close proximity. The first time I heard this thing rip close up in person, I no joke said to my co worker that I’m getting one of these. We’ve gone through two Bose Bluetooth speakers (color link and some other cuz they crapped out) over the past decade and I don’t want to go back. I remember putting my hand up next to the subs and feeling the wind push off of it, something my Bose never did. Cranked up this thing could probably blow out a candle. I followed other’s advice and gradually broke mine in some. Not that it couldn’t handle it, but I wouldn’t go cranking this thing out of the box. Start a little low and work up and after about a week you’ll see the subs warmed up and flexing. Not to mention the battery life is incredible. Listening at mid volume in a personal space I’ve easily gone a week without charging listening at a few hours a day. Idk if I could recommend this at 180 (we paid 140 on special) but we love it and hope it works for years to come. If not we’ll update this review.Note: Don’t forget to download the “JBL Portable” app and you can tweak the bass, mid, and treble with a mini EQ and don’t forget to play around with placement of the speaker as it does affect sound ????

This small unit, smaller than a loaf of bread, will rock your ears off! Far exceeds my 35-watt JVC stereo receiver played through two Bose shelf speakers. Ease of Bluetooth set-up is a snap. JBL quality you expect. Goes like hell for 15-20 hour on a single 4-hour charge. This is a no-brainer.

So i bought this over a year ago and have put it through the ringer.Short list of moments its survived…..- Fall from the Barn Roof 3x- Falling off the counter in my trailer for work while driving and rolling around on the floor 100+ X- Left out in the barn in sub 0 temps 10+ x- left outside through 2 ice storms strapped to my four wheeler completly covered in ICE- dropped while plugged into the charger a lot.battery life is still the same as when I got it. I don’t know what else to say. Its like the energizer bunny it keeps going.

I love this speaker so much, it’s my second one. My first one was black but I got it from best buy so I got ripped off for 180. 130 for this speaker is a steal.

I was looking for something not too expensive, but better than the cheap speaker I had, to put in my bathroom that could actually be heard over the fan & shower. Or, be heard over shaving up. It’s exceeded my expectations! Other than you obviously can’t expect bass out of such a speaker over a sound bar with a subwoofer, it actually sounds better than my sound bar in a much bigger room, minus the subwoofer, but impressive enough you only notice if you’re really paying attention & looking for the thumping vibration.

If you’re looking for an awesome portable speaker that rocks, look no further. The overall sound is very clear and loud. The bass is very impressive for its size. Highly recommend.

The charge 5 came very close to the perfect speaker to me. It sounds awesome, but it has 5 flaws that could make it a killer for you.1- It doesn’t have a carrying handle or mounting points. I wanted to mount these speakers to my ceiling, in either a 1 or 2 pair (2 or 4 speakers), however it has no mounting points to do so, other than getting a silicone cover. It’s not very heavy, but you don’t want to throw this in a backpack either like that, because of point 2.2 The passive radiators are pretty exposed, and although most of the visible and touchable area is hard plastic, there’s no say if a ballpoint pen or other won’t puncture the softer silicone ring.3 This is just a mono speaker. Not stereo. That in itself isn’t a killer deal, as these speakers sound amazing, and I wouldn’t mind buying 2 of them, if it wasn’t for the fact that apparently party mode (connecting more than 1 speaker together, either in multi-mono or in stereo configuration) is only possible on a cellphone or laptop.I could not get these speakers to pair together for my TV! Sure, 1 speaker works, but I wanted to use 2 of them for stereo sound… not possible on a TV.4 If you’re planning on using this speaker in your car, the bass won’t be loud enough. While JBL has the utmost best sound quality per size, trumping even Bose or Soundcore, and initially I found the speaker to be too bass heavy; at least in my living room. I did quickly adapt to the extra low end, and found ways to add even more, by placing it about a foot off the floor (+3dB bass), floor and wall (+6dB bass) or 1³ft off of a corner (either floor and 2 walls, or ceiling and 2 walls), and this tiny little guy could really face my larger Bic speakers, in both sound quality and bass volume! However, when taking it into a car, it’s as if the low end volume disappears, even in a super quiet hybrid car. Perhaps due to the small cabin size, but definitely also because of the rumbling road noise, drowning out some of that sub 80Hz low end bass, making me wish I could increase the volume from 75 to 100%, without the loss of bass.5- the charge 5 doesn’t like low volumes. Each click is a noticeable increase in low volume situations. But the charge really shines from 20 to 75% of volume. Anything over 75%, and the bass does not get louder, and the brights become shrieking, sharp or harsher treble noises. That being said, the charge 5 is loads better than any competitor below, and even some above.Side by side, I found that the charge 5 had punchier bass, nicer mids and brights than the xtreme 3, even if both the charge 5 and xtreme 3 are released about the same year.Up to 75% of volume, the charge 5 is my favorite speaker bar none, save for in the car.The lacking mounting points, difficulty or impossibility of pairing a stereo pair to my TV, or even put my charge 5 and Extreme 3 in stereo mode (as opposed to party mono mode), make this product short of a 5 star rating.I won’t hold drowning out the bass in a car against it, for it is quite difficult to compete with even basic 4 speaker car radios these days.Though, the extreme 3,or even boombox 3 is a much better choice for hearing the low bass notes in a car.

A really good, solid speaker. Quality is excellent and the sound remains clear at all volumes. Small enough to be portable but strong enough to fill a house with music. Battery life also impressive. Paid extra for the name but do not regret it.

Bought this and wasn’t expecting much so was very pleasantly surprised after powering it up.First of all it is very light and not overly bulky, which is why I thought it would be a bit tinny in sound. I have had a couple of portable speakers befor and the sound quality is very questionable. All in all I am really impressed

  • // Q & A

Will this speaker play while plugged into an outlet and passthrough charge?

It says in instructions as per a lithium ion battery that you cannot set up a pattern of playing battery life down to nothing then charging. But to charge before low and don’t try to charge from low while playing as you can set a memory for low charge. I have the charge 3 and as a plumber I violated every bit of instruction letting play on a 14 hour jobsite day. And now mine shuts off even while plugged in if I play music too loud. Buying a new one now because I will try to do things differently. May not be possible. The sound quality is worth it. And its waterproof toughness came in handy more than once.

Is it louder then the charge 4?

Yes, our JBL Charge 5 has a total power output of 40 watts RMS comapred to the Charge 4 wich has only produces 30 watts RMS.

Is a remote wall outlet charger included in the box.. to charge the jbl 5, unit..????

Our JBL Charge 5 has the following items included in the box: 1 x JBL Charge 5

Please state the net weight of the product, excluding packaging. Thank you

    Our JBL Charge 5 weighs 0.96 kg/ 2.11 lbs.

Whats the difference between the charge 5 and the flip 5 in just sound

The Flip 5’s maximum loudness is not as low compared to the Charge 5 as you might expect. Their levels can actually compete with one another often, but how they translate sound at higher volumes differs. If you want a more cleaned-up, smooth sound with heavier bass, the Charge 5 is very tailored and cinematic. If you want a more neutral across-the-board, overall crisper sound, the Flip 5 is better fitted for your ears.
