Taking your trusty bicycle around town to visit some of your favorite haunts can be one of life’s simplest pleasures. The wind in your hair, the ample exercise and the knowing nod you give to other cyclists are only some of the thrilling benefits of being a biker. You know what isn’t a benefit, however? Being plowed over by a car and the driver of said automobile not even giving you a second look as they rush to a gala dinner or wherever else oh-so-important car drivers head off to. That right there is the very definition of danger.
Luckily, there is now a helmet that can help you if you find yourself laying on the street after being run over in a hit and run accident. The aptly named Helmet of Justice, designed by Chaotic Moon, is equipped with a video camera to help you out the culprit to local authorities. The helmet is always recording HD video in a full 360 degrees and can go two hours back from any given time. All you have to do is snap in a USB drive after the accident, and you’ll be good to go. A fully panoramic view of the accident will be at the ready for a cigar-chomping detective and his naive sidekick.
The video records in 30 frames per second so you can be sure to catch a license plate number if it is in view. Safety is important, which is why the considerable cost of this helmet is somewhat understandable. It’ll set you back a full $300, for now. The company is in talks with some major helmet manufacturers and if they reach a deal, the price should go down to something more manageable. In the meantime, you can always just duct tape a webcam to your head.
