You have to manually set the tide every 3 days or so, or it gets inaccurate. What’s the point of a tide watch if you have to keep checking the tide forecasts elsewhere anyway. No wonder it has been discontinued. I must have been the last sucker to buy this thing, and by the time I realized how inaccurate it was, the company who sold it to me denied my return.

I have had 2 Nixon tide watches over a couple of decades. They are fine, reliable watches. I particularly like the sine wave display of the tide stages. It makes me feel connected to the ocean, even when far away from water. The images of the Base Tide watch show this display in the listing, even on the packaging I received. Doesn’t happen. There is no sine wave display.Setting the tide function is based on input of a single date/time of high or low tide. All remaining tides are calculated via a universal algorithm (or is it just a nice design). In my area some tide times were over an hour off. My previous watches allowed selection of the nearest beach and the watch based tides on that beach. I found them to be pretty accurate.The 2 tone face of the Base Tide is new and interesting, Unfortunately, this option is not available for the Base Tide Pro version, which has the features i’m used to in my previous watches.I exchanged the Base Tide for a Base Tide Pro for additional $23. No brainer. I will miss the 2 tone face, however.I must say the seller, BC surf/sports gave me EXCELLENT customer service. My exchange was completed immediately and without hassle. Highly recommended and much appreciated.

I don’t normally leave reviews, but I feel sufficiently disappointed and misled by this product that it only feels appropriate. I purchased this watch–other than a cheapo digital watch that tells time–for the tide feature. When it arrived and I set the initial tide time, I was immediately confused why the low and high tides it predicted were so far off. After multiple calls to Nixon, apparently that’s as good as it gets. Around new and full moons, when tide times get stretched beyond your standard six hours or so, the watch has no way to accommodate that change. Such that around the new moon it was telling me tide times that were 2 hours plus off, which, to me, feels unacceptable. That this can be advertised as a tide watch feels misleading.

It’s a rough estimate, at best. It will usually be within an hour. That makes all the difference when using it for paddle boarding, snorkeling or surfing.I’m not going to give it a terrible rating because I should have fully researched what this watch was. But just be aware. This provides a very rough estimate, and there are MANY other tide watches where you set your location and they give you a very accurate forecast.I would spend just a bit more and get something actually useful.
