Wearable technology is sweeping the tech world, and us big kids are enjoying new products being released every week. But what about the younger ones among us? What about the babies? Well while they might not be old enough to be able to enjoy it, parents are always on the lookout for new ways to better monitor their babies to ensure they’re sleeping well, are comfortable and are in good health. This new “smart sock” by Owlet Baby Care aims to do just that.

The sock has a host of features, great for better monitoring your baby’s health and comfort levels. In fact, the device is capable of keeping track of your baby’s heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep quality, skin temperature, and sleep position, which could be a very important factor in ensuring your child does not suffer from SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

The sock makes use of some very advanced technology including a four-sensors pulse oximeter, which allows for skin temperature and heart rate to be measured through a built in light. Your child’s movements are also monitored through the use of an accelerometer, which is useful for monitoring sleep quality and making sure the baby doesn’t roll onto his or her stomach.

All the data that is collected is sent straight to your computer or smart phone enabling you to monitor the baby’s health in the room next door.

While the device isn’t available just yet, Owlet has built a number of functioning prototypes and are crowdsourcing via their website. In fact, they’ve already raised $43,125 of their $100,000 goal!
