In this day and age, there are smart versions of just about everything. Of course, there is the venerable smartphone. Â You are probably hiding one in your pocket or handbag at this very moment. Then, there was the rise of the smartwatch, which is a big chunk of the kind of thing we write about on this site. Other than that, there are smartglasses(Google Glass started this genre) and all kinds of other smart doodads of every shape and flavor. You know what we haven’t had a smart version of yet, however? A smartwig. No, wigs are still about as dumb as doornails with nary an intelligent end in site. Don’t be so fast on the trigger there, pal. That might be changing very soon.
According to a recent patent issued to electronics and gaming stalwart Sony, they may just be making a smartwig at this very moment in their secret Japanese lair. The patent describes a wig that could “be made from horse hair, human hair, wool, feathers, yak hair or any kind of synthetic material,” with a circuit board somewhere in those delicious strands of hairsies. This wig would be able to communicate with your smartphone for, uh, some reason or another. It could also provide tactile feedback to the user, which essentially means it would vibrate when people noticed you were really bald or something. The patent also indicates there would be a camera on board somewhere. This may sound like a joke but we assure you the company takes intelligent hairpieces very seriously.
Of course, this is just a patent. All this means is the company is working on a device somewhere in their research and development room. It doesn’t mean it will actually come out. I guess that all depends on if the balding people of the world unite and demand it. So, guys, let’s get on this!
