Many people email me and ask, “What is smart clothing?”
Smart clothing encompasses a broad range of products. There are mainly two types of “Smart Clothing” in the so called “High Tech Clothing Industry,” there are wearable computers, and high tech textiles, or ‘smart fabrics’.
Wearable Computing
Wearable computing has been around for a while now and there are many companies trying to build full computers into outfits. These types of computers are mainly being developed for the Military and the business sector. This line of full computers built into clothing is interesting but we like to cover another area of Wearable Computing. Here at Crunchwear we frequently talk about technology enabled clothing. Technology enabled clothing is anything electronic built into a piece of clothing, ie. Ipod controls built into a ski jacket.
