Meet the Mover – An Activity Tracker with a Virtual Motivating Buddy

Activity trackers are all the rage right now, and for the most part, the only real difference between them is where they go. Now, a new concept design by I Do Move is working on creating an activity tracker that also includes a motivating app buddy who will help you move more. The Mover is a fishing weight shaped device that you can wear as a necklace, bracelet, or even on your keys or in your pocket, and wear with you everywhere. It’s also on IndieGoGo until March 8th of 2014, where I Do Move hopes to raise some $40,000 towards the design and manufacture of the Mover.

Meet the Mover

The Mover is a really small tracking device that most of us might have trouble not loosing. Once you put it on and connect it with the compatible app, you can view a count of every step you’ve taken, how many calories you’ve burned, and get motivation and a training program that suits your activity level. The idea is to get you to a healthy amount of movement, which most of us don’t do. Because it also tracks your every step, it adds your daily activities like grocery shopping and walking up the stairs to your total so that you can see what you’re doing.

Features include waterproofing up to one meter, 3D G-Sensors for three axis motion detection, Bluetooth, and a battery that lasts up to 1200 hours. It’s also just 32x22x6 mm in size, which is pretty small.

What Now?

The Mover hasn’t actually been designed yet, and so far, it’s video is a little undescriptive of the technology that goes into it. Their IndieGoGo page suggests that they’re waiting on funding to make the actual prototype, and that for now they just have a few homemade versions. However, they do state that the fishing weight shape was designed by an actual fashion designer for comfort and ease of use, as well as being a little more attractive than most of the round button options that have been coming out lately.

You can buy the Mover for $50 on IndieGoGo with a final retail price of around $65. However, you can buy a decent wrist activity tracker for about the same price without having to worry about the small item flopping up and down. Plus, we wouldn’t hugely recommend investing until they show off a little more solid technology and explain how it works. From the video, the app looks pretty okay, although it does look like a mockup, but should be quite cool once they get everything up and running.

What do we suggest? If you’re in the market for an activity tracker and app that can do a lot but can be worn anywhere, the Mover is probably a great option for you. Of course, you will have to wait for a while, and there are competitively priced alternatives without the motivator buddy that you can buy now. Despite that, the Mover looks pretty promising and we can’t wait to see how it turns out.
