Are these good enough to test Darwin theory if used without helmet?

That's some pertty funny stuff right there but even Darwin would have a tuff time damaging his prefrontal cortex on these silly lil "skates." 🙂 lol

How do you keep them attached to your feet? Like if you had to jump a curb.

A: It would be very dangerous to have these things attached to your feet. You need to be able to hop off when things go scary. That said, the type of shoe and thickness of sole are extremely important. Thicker soles give you more power and easier speed, but hurt your precision and maneuverability suffers. It’s the opposite with thin-soled shoes. And sorry but there’s no “jumping curbs” with these bad boys. It would be more like TUMBLING over curbs.

How fast do they go and can I do some sweet, sweet grinds on the rails?

No grinding, not so much due to the answer from “guy:-)” above. More so due to the fact that you can’t hop or jump onto a rail to grind, because your feet aren’t secured to them in any way. Raise your foot off the “hoverskate”, and the skate’s motor will disengage within a few moments, and you’ll be either balancing on the remaining skate with one leg in the air, or you’ll be on the pavement lamenting your grind ambitions.

What happens if you lift one foot? Like you were actually skating?

The skate is not attached to your foot. So if you lifted one foot, the skate would go off it’s own and eventually stop since your body isn’t applying pressure to move/direct it. I have had these for over a year now. They’re a lot of fun however you need to be a bit careful about the terrain you’re riding on.

can these go up hill?

My seven year old daughter rides them up and down the driveway which has a pretty good slope, I would guess 20 degrees. She can go real slow or stop while up or down a hill which is real noce because regular skated would runaway going downhill, sending her right into the street. These do not do that, very controllable

4 Best Hover Shoes In 2021 [Buying Guide] – Gear Hungry

10 Reviews for Segway Shoes

  1. The “Dockter”

I’ve been riding it around the house to far to get my sea legs and it’s been amazing! I’m already cruising around pretty well without any awkwardness and I haven’t fallen a single time. I can’t wait until Spring to take them outside!

  2. Francisco Marino

Excellent! They are easier to ride than i thought. Fun and seem to be really well manufactured. Regards from Chile! South america. (Mercadolibre: segway drifts)

  3. Er

Very difficult to get a hang of it. Lack of resources and training and manual make learning rather challenging. Also the build quality is a bit unfortunate.

  4. tacky187

I got these for my girl, who is 5’1″ and 120lbs. For learning, she would turn them on while they were down by her feet and set them parallel with the ground. She would sit in a chair and put her feet on them and stand up. At first, I had to hold her hands, but she got the hang of standing on her own. From here, she would slightly lean forward and angle her feet causing them to move. Before I knew it, she was scooting around the kitchen and dining room without issue. I have never seen her so giddy!I don’t understand the 1-star review complaining about difficulty (they are motorized skates so know what you’re getting), and build quality (it’s actually very good.)She says this is the best Christmas gift she has ever gotten, which means score for me! 😉

  5. Marthoula

I got these skates for my 6 year old daughter. After about 4 hrs of learning curve, she skates like a pro! She pulls her sister in the wagon while riding these, lol. My only complaint (saving grace?) is they are limited to a 220 pound rider so I can’t try them out. She wears a helmet and wrist gaurds while riding. Even though they are very controllable, she is still flying forward with nothing between her and any obstacle!

  6. Zeshan Ahmed

I bought these thinking wow great I can replace my Segway Mini hoverboard and carry these around with me but No.The wheels are very hard like regular roller skates but very thick, they are non inflatable. Riding these outside on roads and on the streets that are cement is very rough. You can feel the Roads and its very unstable if the roads aren’t paved or there are small cracks or bumps you will definitely fall off.I’ve mastered these skates at home in wood and tile floors where the surfaces are smooth. They are very fun to ride in smooth surfaces like if you take it to a mall or airport it will be really fun.If you are purchasing these to take with you outside on open roads and pavements I would seriously reconsider. These are only good indoors or smooth surfaces otherwise I would suggest getting the Segway S or Ninebot hoverboard to take you places.

  7. Popeye

I like it very much. Also my little daughter enjoys it. I think I need to buy one more. 🙂

  8. Rob

I’m starting my rating at 4 stars, but might change that as time goes by. Nothing about these hovershoes feels cheap. I was quite impressed with the fact that I was able to stand up on them, unassisted, without falling on my very first attempt. While I have hundreds of miles on a Segway Mini, I’d call these a completely different animal. You might as well be riding mini-pavementmobiles on each foot. They feel a little like skiing, only pizza does not slow you down. French-fry is your friend. I’m not at the same confidence level riding the Drift that I am with the Mini, but so far it seems like these are much more limited. I don’t think I’ll be able to do things like ride the sidewalks to the convenience store just down the street. Maybe more confidence and moving at full speed 100% of the time will change this, but so far it doesn’t take much of a bump to get your hovershoes to stop and you to step off them with the forward momentum. Good thing you can’t go crazy fast with them. I’d call the Segway mini a functional transporter- you can do things like ride to the local store, grab a handful of groceries, and cruise back home with ease. With the drift, I’m not sure they’ be useful for anything but maybe tootling around the park or sidewalks at a nice beach. Fun… but limited.Update:After a little over a month 4 stars is about right. I’ve been able to ride them most days, and I’m to the point where I’m as close to as comfortable as I am with my Segway mini as is probably possible. They are a good leg work out, but like I feared, the usability as a short distance personal transport means is quite limited. For the first couple days I found going from stepping on one to standing on both to ride to be tricky, but with each successful attempt it gets easier. The off-foot, shall we call it, shoe has a tendency to wander if you are not quick about stepping onto it, so you might as well get comfortable doing short rides on one shoe so you can step onto a runaway. As far as rideability, the tiny wheels, unfortunately, mean you need a very friendly riding surface. We’re talking ultra nice concrete or the like- minor seams, no rocks, pebbles, twigs, or curbs. Aside from the rubber anti-slip ramps our sidewalks have, which these cant cross due to the huge dimples, your everyday sidewalk panel seams are brutal on the tiny wheels. If you have such a patch you can ride be prepared for a leg workout. You use leg muscles you had no idea you had. I recommend slowly working up the ride time, starting with a few minutes, and adding one or two each time. They are much more physically taxing to ride than I anticipated. I think most of that is what I’m going to call the “tiny wheel effect.” You spend a great deal of energy maintaining balance over “rough” terrain.Update 2 -After less than 3 months of riding the tread on one shoe is separating from the hub, causing a nasty wobble. Segway support does not answer their phone, and they do not respond to the emails to technical support that their phone system says to use “for the fastest service.”

  9. ShakeSpear

I bought these with the intention of putting them on my horse. However, I had to buy two boxes since only two come in a box. The first time we put them under Charly’s hooves, he was a little wobbly. It took a couple days for him to get used to it. I feel that my horse is actually slower now with these new shoes on. I also feel he is getting lazy and a little overweight. I would avoid this product, if you intend to use them on your horse.

  10. DF

it is not so easy to use it as it shows on the videohad to return
