It’s a well-known fact among parents that illnesses spread quickly between children. But what if you could halt the spread of diseases before they wreak havok on your neighborhood? Inder Singh, founder of Kinsa, wants to provide parents and communities with the right tools to become more aware with his smart thermometer.
The device and company both go by the name Kinsa, its mission is “to create the world’s first real-time map of human health.†Though, in order for the device to work properly, it’s up to a majority of parents to utilize it. Say you have a child that’s starting to feel rather ill, if there are other parents in the area that are using the Kinsa, you’ll be able to get a real-time map of your area’s illness levels, which in-turn can let you know whether your kid is patient zero or if it’s just something that’s going around. You can also create private groups with other parents to see status updates on other children in your area.
The Kinsa thermometer plugs into the headphone jack on your iPhone (Android compatibility is planned for the future). The free app opens when taking your child’s temperature, afterward you have the option to enter in symptoms, save your observations, and track a potential illness to share with your doctor later.
Interested parents won’t be able to get this product, yet, as it’s no on the market. The Kinsa still in the funding stages on a crowdsourcing site called Indiegogo—a site similar to Kickstarter. The project is likely to get funding as it’s has raised over $37,000 of its $50,000 goal (and with 40 days to spare). The money raised will help with production costs. If your looking to invest/pre-order one of these smart thermometers then you only need donate $25 to the cause.
