Vufine Wearable Display
released on January 14, 2017
Can it detect someone's power level?

No, to find someone’s power level you must buy the intergalactic version not the earth one since we humans don’t really have power levels then there is no point in displaying it.

Does it have calling built in

No. It has two ports, one for USB one HDMI in only to hook to your source (must be 720p). No wireless capabilities at all.

Can th device be powered externally while in use?

Yes

Will this work with a pixel one phone? the only port a pixel has is a usb type c slot. what would i need to get this to work with this phone?

I don't believe that's possible on the pixel phone as it does not have the capability of USB-C to HDMI. If it weren't for the hardware/software limitation, you'd need a usb-c to hdmi adapter and you'd use the supplied hdmi cable to get the video to the vufine.

Looking for a 3rd monitor for coding. I see it's possible, but is it any good? Possible!=practical.

NOT practical. it is a great idea poor execution. The display sits way to far back in the viewer and the sides of the glass get in the way. plus if you are wanting to read any line of Text it is way way too small. Sorry but i hope this helps. I would send you mine for free if you wanted. SFC York

Tips and Troubleshooting | Vufine | Wearable Displays ...

Currently, Vufine is only designed for right-eye usage. However, if you are able to rotate the HDMI output from your device, you can flip Vufine over to your left-eye. Notice, the cables will be sticking out of the top of Vufine when you do this. Where is the sound?

The concept is great, but the implementation is not ergonomic. The display is not very adjustable, so I don’t get to see the entire image. It needs to be able to tilt in all 4 directions and be able to slide in/out of the support. I hope to try a future generation of this product.

The device was really easy to setup – just like a regular monitor. It immediately worked and there were enough adjustments to allow the device to set correctly on my head.PROs: – simple setup – nothing to install; no tricks – Clear high quality imageCONs: – Viewing area WAY to small – 8″ wide at 2′ away from faceI gave the product an extra star as it certainly works and is higher quality than expected. It is completely unusable for much accept maybe watching cartoons.

I bought this as a kind of experiment. I’m an illustrator/ painter and I work from photo references, or 3D model programs. I found this to be a great tool/ time saver while I work. Normally i’ll have my computer with my references set up on the side and whatever my canvas is in front of me. Sometimes its a nuisance to have to turn my head so much to look at the reference and by the time I turn back to my work I have lost the specific spot I was concentrating on. The beautiful thing about the vufine display is that I can keep my eye exactly where I’m working and then just shift focus onto the reference. I’ve gotten pretty quick at it, and it prevents my neck from getting exhausted! One of the mounts it comes with allows you to pretty much position it anywhere you need high/low/left/right, and that helps with comfort and the position I sit in ( I can be looking down on a page and look up at the reference, or up at a canvas and look down for the reference) haven’t had the chance to use it for sculpture yet, but I can see it being a huge benefit. When I draw comic books its also a really nice feature to be able to read the script/character descriptions while I rough in a page. This has given me an idea to use it as I obnoxiously sing songs while I work so my girlfriend gets annoyed. I can look up any Chumbawamba song and read the lyrics as I dance. Maybe this would be good for actors on set rehearsals or musicals? It’s nice that it comes with prescriptionless glasses, but they are pretty small. I have a small head and they fit pretty snug.

As I coach hockey (goalie) professionally, I am always looking for creative devices to help me coaching on and off ice.I found Vufine could help me monitoring the GoPro view from behind the net or from on ice level. The first obvious challenge was to find the way to attach the Vufine mount on my helmet. However, it was much easier than I thought as I just utilized the standard helmet part to attach the cage (J-Clip) and it worked perfectly.I set the GoPro behind the net on the glass board or on the ice to capture my goalie training, connect with my phone via WiFi then monitor with Vufine through HDMI connector. This way I can see if the goalie is in good position against the puck or not etc with the real time view onsite. The quality of the screen is very clear and easy to watch once you adjust the screen at the right place in front of your eye.Does it bother me when I was shooting? No, I just have to detach the Vufine off from my helmet as the magnetic mount makes it very easy to do.I can see this device would be also useful for monitoring specific camera (like from behind the goalie) when coaches are on the bench, or even checking some real time stats sent from the video coach up in the stand.I really wish they would come up with the update including Bluetooth or WiFi connection so it’ll be cable free.Nice product to make you think creative with anything you do!

Alrighty, I have played around with the Vufine for a couple days now and have some mixed feelings. For one, it is useless if you intend to use it with thin-framed glasses. Even with the included ‘brace’ for thin frames, the Vufine is just too heavy. The mount was constantly slipping downward. To make matters worse, it was extremely uncomfortable and you will constantly be adjusting your glasses due to the added weight. I have a hat mount on the way which should take care of that issue, still a bummer that it doesn’t work right out of the box though. So, that’s a bummer. But onto the good stuff, which may surprise you..With the included dorky glasses, the mount works quite well! It does not slip off your face like normal script glasses will (at least in my case). It’s pretty neat not having to look down at a field monitor and instead have a small screen constantly in your FOV. Takes some getting used to, but it will certainly come in handy when I’m shooting video with my Ronin. The BEST use I’ve found so far with the Vufine surprised me though.. For taking photos!! Holy sh*t if you find yourself trying to take photos in unusual positions and don’t want to use the back LCD screen, this is literally like a small electronic viewfinder constantly on your eye. Honestly it’s so good with my A7Riii, that I can go out shooting and not even have to rely on the EVF or back LCD screen. So there you have it…. Sucks for prescription glasses, is okay for video shoots, and kicks ass for taking photos in difficult positions/locations. It’s overpriced in my opinion, but I’ll be keeping mine because of the usefulness I stated above.

The day after the 1 year warranty elapsed the screen died and is now the unit is completely useless. When it did work it was a bit limited in practical use: I intended to use it with professional video cameras but it only accepts 720P input so whilst DSLMs like the A7s worked fine, larger cams like FS7, F5 did not. Plus the screen is too small and the viewing angle is too narrow – it really has to be positioned very precisely in front of the eye to be able to view it. Overall very disappointed.

I’ve wanted a proper monocular display for many years, mostly for drone flying and gimbal work, but also as an occasional second PC display.I’d read the bad reviews but thought I’d give this a shot. The unit itself is well made, and the display is small, but reasonably sharp. However, the package is totally ruined by the embarassingly poor quality mounts. It’s somewhat ironic, because that’s the “easy” part in designing a product like this. It seems as though it may have been outsourced, or an afterthought; the primary mount broke after approximately one hour (rubber strap snapped), but was only marginally usable anyway. The more complex mount simply doesn’t work. It uses a ball/socket for adjustment that has no rubber, so it won’t stay where you put, even briefly. It should never have made it to a customer.I’ve ordered the headband, and will give it a shot, but I honestly don’t have high hopes. If it’s not perfect, I’m sending the whole lot back.If the company that makes this product is still in business, they *need* to design a proper mount, and ship it out to customers for free. Without it, these HMDs are not functional devices. With a proper, stable mount, it would be a 4 or possibly 5 star device. Will update after I’ve tested the headband mount.– Update 2019/04/10 –Received the headband mount, which was not as pictured. It’s just the hat mount, along with a cheap headband, and doesn’t work very well. Combined with the insufficient eye relief on this HMD, it is simply unusable. Back it goes.

Over priced! I could not get this to work with any od my tablets. Despite wasting money on two adapters. I have a Samsung 9 note and the screen was smaller than the tiny screen these output. I tried adjustments with display and the result was terrible. Have returned. It does not work with Kindle Fire 10 or generic tablets. If it was blue tooth and a bigger screen, it would be worth the money, in its present specification it is a dud!
