Malaria is an absolutely devastating disease that millions suffer from every single day. Around 650,000 people die from Malaria every year, and most of those victims are children under the age of 5 years old.
Something has to be done.
Not too long ago, we introduced you to the fashion that fights Malaria, that essentially has a type of mosquito repellant woven into the threads of the fabric. This could be a very effective method of fighting Malaria, as Malaria is spread through the blood, which mosquitos carry. Unfortunately, one fashion designer is not going to be able to make enough clothes for the millions of people who are at risk of catching Malaria. Fortunately there are other ways of combatting it. Introducing the Kit Mosquito Patch.
Essentially, the Kit Patch allows wearers to go undetected by mosquitos for up to 48 hours. It is lightweight, durable, and comes in a range of colors. Not only that but it is also effective.
The Kit Patch came about because of the fact the the engineers behind it wanted to rethink how we protected ourselves against Malaria, as many of our current methods are either ineffective or involve the use of potentially toxic chemicals. Â The goal of the team behind it is to be able to distribute the Kite Patch freely to those who need it the most, starting in Uganda.
The team behind the Kit Patch have already reached their first goal of $75,000, which allows them to make around 20,000 Kit Patches and distribute them in Uganda. In fact, they’ve now reached over $450,000, and their next goal is $600,000, which will allow them to make and distribute over 150,000 Kit Patches to Malaria ridden areas. The impact this could have on communities where Malaria is a big problem is massive. Despite this, there is always more that could be done, and more money would mean that more Kite Patches can be made.
