Technology is helping the medical field in leaps and bounds as new startups and companies are introducing new products to the market. The latest of these products is called the Zio.
Many of todays cardiac monitoring patches require batteries and cannot record data for long enough to really capture the irregularities in a patients cardiac system. But what if there was a product that didn’t even need a battery? Enter the Zio.
The startup that is bringing the Zio to the market, iRhythm, recently won a $16 million investment, meaning that they are going to be able to start mass producing iRhythm.
The way that it works is that it can be worn for up to 2 weeks, and monitors information about the users cardiac system. The fact that it can be worn for 2 weeks straight greatly increases the chances of it being able to capture irregular cardiac patterns.
The Zio is in competition with devices that both collect and transmit data, however the Zio has an upper hand in a number of areas. As previously mentioned, the Zio can record data for up to 2 weeks. The Zio also does not require a battery as most other cardiac monitoring systems would, and it is completely waterproof and recyclable. Because of these things, the Zio is a breakthrough in cardiac monitoring technology and should help a huge amount of patients in monitoring their heart.
