Headaches can be the absolute pits. They make you not want to do anything and just lay around alternatively cursing your luck and staring at the furthest bedroom wall. OK, now migraine headaches make those annoyances feel minor in comparison. Migraine headaches are the Darth Vader of headaches. They quite literally shut your whole system down for their duration, which can last days. So, yeah, wearable technology should get on this, thus easing the suffering of millions of people around the world. Don’t worry. They are already on top of it. Yay wearable technology! I knew you wouldn’t let me down.
Introducing the Cefaly headband. This plastic headband is purported to severely reduce the symptoms of migraine headaches. How in the heck does it do that? Well, it actually zaps them away. It uses electrical stimulation to battle migraine pain, sending  small, but steady, electrical pulses into the trigeminal nerve, the largest of the cranial nerves. Researchers are not entirely sure why, but in many studies this reduces the pain for a large percentage of sufferers. Over seventy percent of those studied report the decrease, which is a heck of a high number. The only side effect seems to be a slight tingling while wearing it, which makes sense considering it is sending electrical impulses into your brain.
the Cefaly is already available in Europe and Canada, and it has just been approved for sale in the United States by those wiley coyotes the FDA. No actual release date has been given, but we imagine it won’t be too long. We’ll let you know when you can finally ease your migraine pain in another way besides getting blackout drunk.
