To some, space may be the final frontier, but my money is on the brain. After all, there is still so much we don’t know about it. All of our combined cranial knowledge amounts to, well, not that much. What is depression exactly? How can we maximize memory? Do we have a soul? Wait, that last one was a bit too existential. In any event, the coming years promise to increase our knowledge of the brain. There are several promising technologies coming down the pike that should just that. One such technology is EEG-sensing technology, which read our brainwaves to gather all sorts of useful information. Here is a headband that makes novel use of that concept.

We have written about the Muse brain-sensing headband before, but we are happy to report that the makers have finalized a design for a consumer model and it is coming soon to a brain near you. All told, the headband contains seven EEG sensors that attach to four spots on your head. It interacts with an app that tasks you to think of certain things, and to think of nothing at all, and charts how you did. The end result is, eventually, you learn to focus and control your brain better. We could all use a bit of that.

You can preorder one now for $270 and the app itself will be available for both Android and iOS devices, so no matter what OS your brain chose, your brain can choose to be tracked by Muse. The company also says the device will have plenty of brainiac apps in the future, thanks to an open-source SDK.
