Review Update January 4, 2020The issue I’m having with this watch is battery life. It really burns through the battery and barely lasts 24 hours if I don’t use it at all and it’s just sitting on a shelf. I find I have to charge it mid-day every day. I don’t understand what might be drawing so much power.Review Update November 27, 2019I’m finding the most useful thing about this watch are the email notifications. I can quickly glance at the watch, read the text, scroll to the next email and read it. That is much quicker than pulling my phone out, logging in, viewing notifications, then finally pulling up the email.Review Update November 21, 2019The battery drain is much better now. I changed the watch face to a very simple version. I seems the one I was using (see the attached photo) really sucks power from the battery. The phone was at 100% battery charge at 10am this morning. It’s nowabout 7pm and the charge level is 45%. Much better but the watch still isn’t going to make 24 hours without a charge.Review Update November 20, 2019It’s really amazing what is packed in a little package these days. The watch obviously contains a battery, computer chip, memory chip, WiFi, Bluetooth, the display, and heart monitor. Pretty impressive in itself. Then it is loaded with Android Wear giving it access to many apps to make it even more valuable. As I’ve now had the watch for a couple of days I’ve pretty much figured out most of what it does, and when to swipe in which direction. The biggest negative for me is the charge cable.1) The charge cable is as large as the watch.2) The charge cable is magnetic but not very strong so I have to be careful or I’ll easily knock it off.3) The charge cable is of a unique design. I would much prefer to have a standard microUSB cable. I have many microUSB cables around the house, in the cars, and even in the boat. With only one charge cable it is not convenient. It really burns through the battery and one might think this would be the top negative thing about the watch. However I fully understand the large power needs of the display and other features while at the same time knowing how little room there is for a battery in this watch case. The rapid drain of the battery is annoying but understandable. To save power I’ve turned off the Always On feature so after a few seconds showing the time the watch goes blank. I can flick my wrist, or push the middle button, to view the time. Still the battery drain is disappointing even if I’m doing nothing with the watch. It is said to last 24 hours but I’m not sure it will last that long even if it is just idling. Powering it down overnight would help, but putting it on the charger overnight makes more sense. From my observations it loses about 10% charge per hour when not in use. I find myself putting it on the charger at least twice a day.The features are impressive. I’ve found a watch face I very much like(see the photo), it does report my heart rate, shows the weather, responds to voice input, shows news, shows notifications, shows messages, shows email, contains my contacts list, has an alarm, can count steps and other fitness features, and more. I’ve loaded a calculator app and am playing with a GPS app. Very impressive.Pros:- Nice looking- Bright and clear display- Reasonably quick- Many built in apps and features with good user control over features.- Access to a wide variety of apps- Charges rapidlyCons:- Unique, large, charge cord- Rapidly drains the batteryMovado Connect 2.0 Initial Review November 18, 2019I hesitated before selecting this smart watch. I haven’t had a watch like this before so I wouldn’t be able to offer comparative reviews of its features. I did end up selecting the Movado Connect 2.0 because I thought my novice impressions may be just as valuable as a seasoned Wear OS user. The watch was nicely packaged. Upon opening the watch body is elegant appearing. The case is silver and black, and the watch face is perfectly flat surrounded by a thin grey line. The band I received is black leather which blends in nicely with the watch. I prefer a flexible band so if I continue to use this watch I will likely change the band. As I understand the version 1.0 did not have bands that could be replaced by the user. The leather band actually has a small lever which makes removing the band very easy. The back of the watch has four recessed charge contacts. In the center on the back is apparently an LED light to assist the heart monitor.Instructions were to begin charging the watch right away. After I removed the typical clear peel-off covers I attached the charger. There were no hints how long I should leave it charging. After it started up it didn’t take long to figure out how to see the battery status (started about 38% charged). Charging seems to add about 20 % for every ten minutes of charging. The magnet holding the charger onto the back of the watch could be stronger. It kept coming off while I was trying to use the watch at the same time it was being charged. It’s really annoying. In the end I determined it must be placed on a table and left entirely alone or it will disconnect from the magnetic charger. After the charge was 100% on the watch I pushed the center button to turn the watch on. When it completed its several minute start up process I was able to start the Wear OS app on my Android phone. At this point the app walked me through a series of questions regarding enabling or not various features such as GPS or Notifications. I turned everything on so I could do a full evaluation. After trying various functions I was informed about a downloadable update which I selected. It only took a few minutes.I had a few questions I wanted to answer.1) Was there a speaker in the watch? Apparently not. When I asked the watch to play me a song it started music playing on my phone.2) How do I control the screen brightness? On the Settings screen under the Display option. But screen brightness can be set to Auto too.3) How do I enable the “always on” feature? In the Settings screen under Display. It’s going to take a while to master this watch. A bit more of a paper or online help would be appreciated. The watch wants to sleep while charging. It kept changing back to a default screen while the charger was connected. I had to wait for 100% charge, then will get back to learning the watch. Now that it is at 100% charge I’ve been able to swipe through various screens. It isn’t yet obvious which gestures do what. Returning to the watch face screen isn’t always easy to figure out. At least holding the large middle button will force it back to a time of day face. The large middle button also rotates (like winding an old watch) which will scroll through views. What can this watch do? Show the time, date, day of the week, seconds. It can show the weather, news, respond to “Okay Google” verbal instruction, play music and/or control the music on the linked phone, show email messages, show text messages, time things with a stopwatch, and count my steps. In short it can do quite a lot more than that. It is supposed to be able to monitor my heart beat but that’s not likely because I have chronic A-Fib and only devices that show a heart waveform can accurately show my heart behavior. The text can be resized and the round face doesn’t keep from viewing text even when the font size is set to large. The display is very clear with high contrast and very good colors.I can see how this watch can come in handy. Here’s one example. Instead of taking my phone out of my pocket, waking it up using my finger on the fingerprint reader, and pulling down the notifications panel, I’ll just be able to glance at the watch which is already showing the notification. This would be much less distracting while in a meeting.I’ve begun to figure out the swipe movements and what that accomplishes. With the time being displayed on my choice of watch face I can swipe up for notifications, left for the weather or other apps, right for my calendar, and down for watch settings and Google Pay. I haven’t spent any time with the top and bottom buttons; I think they are programmable.I plan to wear and use this watch for a few days, then return here to update my review.

Watch is 4 stars, Wear OS (software) needs some MAJOR work. Expensive for function. If I were rating entire experience it would be 3 stars.Been wearing this for two weeks, with it connected to a Moto G6.It is just slightly thinner than an Oreo (tried to find something to use for comparison) and slightly smaller in diameter.I took a photo of it next to my Timex Weekender, a quarter, and yes, an Oreo.My overall summary is that this is quite expensive for the functionality, but it has its uses so you need to balance cost vs value. If you need a fitness watch, this does do that function very well. I do think they are charging a price premium for the brand, and because it does look more classy than a lot of smart watches. I think the software is also not completely ready for prime time, Wear OS needs some major work. This is really not the fault of the watch, so I am not going to ding it stars for that, but you should be aware it is neither intuitive nor nimble. In the two weeks of wearing it I had over a dozen “somethings went wrong” notifications. If I were rating it based on Wear OS as well, this would be a 3 star product.I do find it useful when teaching, I can have it on, and see notifications that are coming to my phone, however sometimes they simply do not go from the phone to the watch and neither I, my engineer husband or my 20 something kid can figure out why. I also cannot figure out how to have it keep my notifications so I can scroll through them. You need to install the app on your phone, and then you can control what notifications you are supposed to get from the phone (which is easier than doing so from the watch).Pros:It looks good. Looks classier than an Apple in my opinion. It s a bit thicker than a regular watch, but not so much that it is annoying.Screen is clear. It does not last the claimed 3 days unless your days are 4 hours long…It does last 12 hours, even on “always on”, in 4 trials of “always on” it made it 13 hours, 14 hours and about 13.5 hours. It will last much longer if you put it on the format where it turns on when you flick your wrist. One problem, about 25 percent of the time I have to rotate my wrist several times to get it to react. On that setting at the end of 12, 13 and 12 hours it had 32 percent, 22 percent and 30 percent battery left.GPS built in is nice, and it will run without it being paired with the phone.Fitness tracker is minimal (Google Fit) but works, and heart rate monitor works well.Bluetooth works all over the house, about 30 feet through walls.Nice amount of onboard memory. The button to access and rotate the tiles is nice (the crown button)You can get other straps, although it is kind of a weird size, 21mm.You can install 3rd party apps, but eh, a lot of them are also not ready for prime time.Cons:No speaker. None. So you can launch say, google maps, but all sound will have to come from your phone.Vibration appears to only have one setting and it is fairly faint so if I am busy I miss it.Proprietary charging cable. I hate this. Just use as USB C, or at this price at least give two. I would go upstairs, forget I had it on and then have to go back down to put it in the charger. Or make it work with Qi wireless charging. If you need reading glasses you are not going to be able to get the font to a size you can read without them. The largest font size is about Times New Roman 10, medium is about 8 and small is about 6.The curved edge means that notifications get cut off sometimes.Large bezel, why? It is already pretty big.Comes with four watch faces, you can download more but they drain the battery pretty quickly. I tried this and did not make it 6 hours with the downloaded watch face.Rated IPX8, so its resistant to water splashes but NOT waterproof. Do not forget to take it off when showering or swimming. If you want to use the Google Assistant by talking to it, you need to hold it within about a foot of your mouth. The Wear OS seems to need some work. Instructions are minimal. I for example, only get Facebook notifications randomly, and I cannot figure out why. I spent some time Googling and got no answer. I would like to be able to adjust more things, like how long the notification stay in the lineup, cannot figure that out.
