There are two parts to the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System. The first is a piece that is surgically implanted into the patients eye and includes a small case for electronics, an electrode array, which is the piece that actually allows the patient to see. The implant also includes an antenna so receive information from the other piece in the system.

The second part of the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System is a set of glasses that includes an antenna, which sends information to the antenna in the implant, and a camera which captures what the patient is to be seeing. There is also a small video processing unit which the patient carries or hooks to their belt.

The Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System is a leap foreword in both the field of technology and medicine. It is the most advanced system ever created to help visually impaired patients. It is also upgradeable so that future improvements on the system are able to be used by patients who have the current system.
